Family owned and operated.
Life-long Door County residents John and Jean Tong opened Idlewild Kennel in 2005 and have established a loving and loyal clientele over the years, with generations of families and pets returning for our boarding services. As pet owners ourselves we guarantee your pet's safety and comfort at all times during their stay. We know that we have a special responsibility to not only care for your pet, but to offer a safe, loving and fun environment. That's what makes Idlewild Kennel "your pet's home away from home"!
Idlewild Kennel: A country bed and breakfast for your pet.....
Our intention here at Idlewild Kennel is to make the separation between family and pet as stress free as possible. Our facilities are situated on open land that we’ve divided up into play areas according to size and temperament to promote a safe environment. Your dog will spend the majority of their day being able to run and frolic to their heart’s content. There are unlimited belly rubs, hugs and kisses available to make them feel right at home. If your pet can’t be at home with their own family then they should be here with our family!
We invite you to make an appointment for a relaxed "get to know ya" visit with your dog. We'll have an opportunity to answer your questions while your pet gets familiar with the sounds and smells of Idlewild Kennel.
The Kennel
Our pens are constructed with sturdy, pet-proof materials and easy-to-clean floors. All surfaces are washed and disinfected daily. Each dog has an individual cot, with a nightly "turn down service" & "potty break" between 8pm & 9pm. Be assured that your pet has access to fresh drinking water at all times.
Daycare
In addition to overnight boarding we also offer daycare services. Canine guests are grouped by similar interests, personality and activity levels for the best play experience. Day care provides your dog with an energy outlet as well as a way to remain active, especially during Door County's long cold winters!
The Cattery
Tucked away in a quiet area away from our canine guests, our feline friends get the respect they deserve with separate accommodations where they can climb, stretch and snooze. They enjoy a sunny atmosphere with window views of our front lawn area. Litter boxes are located in a private area on the lower level.

Frequently Asked Questions
Take a moment to explore some answers to the most common questions we receive to help familiarize you with our facility and how we care for your four-legged family member.
For those boarders that have special medical needs we are happy to administer medications, at no extra charge, to the best of our ability.
You are welcome to exercise your own discretion concerning your dog’s diet. Included in the price of boarding are two daily meals of our kennel dog food, which is Purina Dog Chow. We also welcome personalized diets, so if your dog has any special dietary needs or you would just prefer to keep your dog on his home diet, you may bring your chosen food along for the stay. You are welcome to bring along your pets personal belongings such as toys, bedding, treats and whatever else you feel your dog will appreciate. We provide every dog with the basics. A a cot and food & water bowls. Please understand that there is always the possibility of damage to personal belongings (due to chewing or washing for example) so we recommend that you bring only items that are replaceable should they be damaged.
Your Dog should be current on Rabies, DHPP (Distemper) and Bordetella (kennel cough). We will need written proof of vaccinations. You can bring them for us to copy, or you can have your vet fax them to us at 920-746-4438. We recommend your pet being vaccinated at least one week prior to coming to Idlewild Kennel. Since vaccinations stress a pet’s immune system, it’s best not to also stress them with a new environment. Some pets may have a reaction to vaccines and this will greatly reduce the chance of that happening here.
Providing us a copy of your vaccination records PRIOR to check-in is recommended. We will REFUSE TO BOARD YOUR DOG IF our vaccination requirements are not met. This is NOT negotiable, it is for both the safety of your dog and the other dogs boarding with us.

She checks on our guests when summer thunderstorms roll through, and is close-by to make sure that everything is as it should be. Dogs are cared for every day, INCLUDING holidays and weekends.
Yes. We do not discriminate against any breed. A good dog is a good dog and a problem dog is a problem dog, no matter what the breed.
